Oh Dear God - Renovations in Old Homes=Scary

I'm skipping the photos right now. Why? I'm terrified, just petrified, of this renovation. It's our first and it's damn scary to start hitting walls with sledgehammers, walking into a house filled with your fallen ceiling and thinking "what have I done!!!?"

So I'm starting off nice and simple with some inspiration stuff off Houzz so I can avoid the reality for now.

On another note, J called me this morning on his bike to the reno and said he just watched (and tried to save) a man from drowning in the river. Gave a statement and everything. Him and another biker did what they could by trying to get ahead of him. It was an awful start to a day after thinking we had made a mistake in taking this project on. Like a horrible, obvious, in-your-face omen. But on the other hand, it wasn't about us. It was about a man drowning. Not everything is about us. So we had some moments of reflection and carried on. Actually put our silly project into perspective.

Okay. Moving along (deep breath, release, and go).

Here is a cute way to integrate modern into old with objets d'interests. Add some LED lights to that disgusting porch outside.

They are solar-powered and LED. And waterproof to boot. Speaking of boots, here is an idea for the entryway for spring and winter weather. A pretty boot tray.

And uses for the trees that will come down in the fall (they will I tell you!!!).

Because we need a million area rugs, here is some rugspiration.

And lastly, on in a grey neutral which will last in colour trends for another 10 years likely.

And this rug, which mimics the colour on the wallpaper hanging in the kitchen. Okay, ONE of the TWO different wallpapers. No, three or was it FOUR? Yeah (shakes head).
